In 2003 he was honoured with the annual European Leadership Award by the European Foundation for Quality Management, for his “contribution to the Excellence movement in Europe”. | Susanne Stormer is Vice President of Global TBL Management at the Danish-based pharmaceutical company, Novo Nordisk. TBL is short for Triple Bottom Line – the Novo Nordisk principle to always strive to be a financially, environmentally and socially responsible business.
In this capacity she sets the strategic direction for the company’s positioning as a sustainability leader and a pioneer in demonstrating the long-term business value of incorporating economic, social and environmental perspectives into its market proposition. She and her team is charged with aligning, driving and accounting for the company’s performance, and for communicating effectively and engagingly on Novo Nordisk’s successes as well as its challenges. In addition she serves as executive support and counsel to the Board. Susanne joined the Novo Group in 2000 to ingrain the TBL concept in the business. In 2001 she was appointed a manager of corporate stakeholder relations at Novo Nordisk, responsible for driving the company’s sustainability reporting. In 2004 she also became responsible for internal brand strategy and brand culture programmes. In 2006 she was promoted to Director, Accountability and TBL Leadership, and in April 2008 she was promoted to her current position. Among her achievements are the successful integration of the company’s financial and sustainability reporting that has brought Novo Nordisk at the cutting edge of integrated reporting, developing Novo Nordisk’s employee volunteer programme, TakeAction!, and implementing the company’s progressive climate strategy. Susanne has held senior positions (1988-2000) in international public relations consultancies, focusing on environmental affairs, public affairs and corporate responsibility with clients from the private as well as the public sector. Susanne has a master’s degree in English Studies and a BA in East Asian Area Studies from the University of Aarhus, Denmark. She is a graduate of Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program (2006). In 2008 she was appointed member of the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship International Advisory Board. She is also an alumni of the Cambridge Sustainability Network, following her participation in 2001 in the Cambridge University Business for the Environment Programme. |
